Tips for skin care after BOTOX injections

After undergoing BOTOX treatment, you’ll want to follow these tips to enjoy the results.

  1. Don’t touch your face

Following BOTOX treatment, it is fine to continue making facial expressions to naturally stretch your skin and muscles. However, you should not touch your face for at least 24 hours. Avoid rubbing, massaging, or putting pressure on the skin of the face. You want the BOTOX solution to settle in the parts of your face that underwent the injections. If you inadvertently rub or massage your face, you can push the solution into other areas of the skin and tissue, which will lessen its effectiveness.

  1. Avoid exercising

Do not hit the gym or conduct strenuous exercise following BOTOX injections for at least 24 hours. When you work out, your heart starts to pump excessively and pushes blood throughout your cardiovascular system. The increased blood flow in your face causes the BOTOX solution to diffuse and lose its effectiveness. If the formula seeps out into the surrounding tissues, it can start to paralyze other areas of your face and not just the treated region. The diffusion of the solution will also reduce its effectiveness.

Even if the BOTOX does not spread to surrounding tissue following exercise, the increased blood flow can worsen bruising and swelling at the injection locations.

Following BOTOX injections, always avoid excessive movements of the head, which can also cause the solution to migrate. Even minimal impact exercises like Pilates and yoga can also lead to the BOTOX seeping into the surrounding tissue and muscles.

  1. Do not sleep on your side or stomach

If you are a side or stomach sleeper, you probably burrow your face into the pillow. It might feel like heaven to snuggle into your bed’s comfortable cushions, but the pressure of the pillow on your face can move the BOTOX product throughout your facial skin and muscles.

Sleep on your back the first night following BOTOX injections to avoid causing the BOTOX solution to migrate.
